SAS is bringing powerful analytics to a broader class of users by launching a new in-memory business intelligence (BI) solution.

Known as SAS Visual Analytics, the newly released BI solution leverages a highly visual interface to provide a fast, simple and cost-effective path to business insight and better decisions.

SAS claims its newly announced release can apply the power of SAS Analytics to huge amounts of data; visually explore data at the speed of sight; and share fresh insights with everyone, everywhere, via the Web or iPad.

"The speed of in-memory architecture offers tremendous benefit. Organisations can explore huge data volumes and get answers to critical questions in near-real time," said Dan Vesset, program vice president of IDC's business analytics research.

"SAS Visual Analytics offers a double bonus: the speed of in-memory analytics plus self-service eliminates the traditional wait for IT-generated reports. Businesses today must base decisions on insight gleaned from data, and that process needs to be close to instantaneous."

In-memory engine

SAS Visual Analytics features a unique in-memory engine ideal for business visualisation of big data on inexpensive, non-proprietary hardware.

The solution is a combination of analytics, unique in-memory architecture, intuitive data exploration, Hadoop support and information-delivery options, including the iPad.

SAS Visual Analytics includes a range of features such as SAS LASR Analytic Server that allows calculations on the data resident in-memory, producing remarkably fast results.

The solution also includes a central location to launch the various elements of SAS Visual Analytics; a tool for viewing reports, connecting to servers and downloading information on the go; and an ad hoc data discovery and visualisation tool to explore and analyse data.

Moreover, SAS Visual Analytics enables users to create standard and custom reports and dashboards; and is used by administrators to manage users, security and data.
