Tell us about your company and your product, Maaii.

Maaii is a new socially enriched cross-platform mobile app providing unlimited free talk & text. The app allows users to call other maaii users for free, to call out to landline and mobile numbers with maaiiOut or instant message with their social network friends. Maaii provides a suite of products that include; call forwarding, inbound numbers, conference calling & voicemail. Maaii also allows users to share content (images & video) during calls to enrich the communications experience.

The Maaii platform is also scalable for third party developers. Any iOS or Android developer can embed Maaii's calling and chat functions into their own third party applications to further enhance the app experience.

On top of the developer platform Maaii provides a hosted platform (Cloud) service to Operators, ISPs and Enterprises that wish to white label the product suite and run their own OTT voice & chat services. Effectively this is a no-CAPEX solution for operators and ISPs to go to market quickly with their own branded end-to-end voice/IM smartphone applications, but provisioned to the customer via Maaii's global, partitioned network.

The company was set-up last year and is wholly owned and invested by Ganges Group. The company is built by an international team based in Hong Kong, coming from companies such as Skype, eBay & Nokia. The company has a strong presence in China, with offices in Beijing and is currently in the process of expanding further afield across SEA.

When was Maaii launched? What has been its traction so far?

Maaii launched its iOS application in January of 2012 and has since attracted more than one million users globally. We launched our Android version of Maaii into open beta in early June and this can now be downloaded via GooglePlay & Getjar.

How important is the Asia Pacific region for this app? Where is it more popular?

Since launching we have seen major traction in SEA, China and the Middle East. Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan have been the primary growth geographies for us outside of China. During the launch promotion, we have been offering free credit for users to make free calls with maaiiOut. This seems to be a compelling proposition for users across these markets.

We plan to build on this momentum by offering deeper social integration with other networks, as we currently do with Facebook.

How is your app different from Skype or Vonage?

The Maaii application has several main differences;
