The ability to give clear instructions even under fire makes an extraordinary officer

It's a matter of adjusting to the individual, and you do this every day. You don't have just one way of treating people; you adjust yourself to who you are talking to. I might talk to one person one way, someone else another.

His ability to understand people and situations, as well as having the flexibility to adapt to anything, sets him apart, even though he is someone who is low-key and humble. All these qualities, ladies and gentlemen, make Major Richard D. Winters a true leader.
