Endeca sticks to what it does best

Endeca is one of the top three vendors of enterprise information access technologies

The challenge is how to get out of this trap, and Endeca believes it is by delivering more comprehensive yet targeted information that lets decision-makers use more discretion by applying their previous knowledge and experience to that information. For example, customers on an e-commerce site selecting the most appropriate items for their needs, and not having to return them because they were not suitable with all the subsequent costs for the seller.

Semantics the next generation of search

Since Tim Berners-Lee first spoke about the semantic web (the ability for computers to automatically find the links between pieces of information based upon their meaning and provide more relevant information from the widest available range for sources), researchers and vendors alike have been trying to develop infrastructure to support the approach.

The McKinley release of IAP has an architecture that supports semantic search, and this is demonstrated in the Financial Times site. Here large amounts of content are searched and the results placed in context along with sentiment and source analysis in order to make better informed business decisions.

With this release, and as illustrated by, Endecas IAP is doing just what businesses need information access technology to do: providing all the information in context and at the right time to enable businesses to make the right decisions. This is a good proposition and very powerful.
