Polycom and IBM collaborate to roll out VaaS solutions

The two companies aim to accelerate cloud-delivered video collaboration applications

Polycom and IBM Research have announced a collaboration to develop next-generation innovations for cloud Video-as-a-service (VaaS) solutions, the companies announced on 6 September.

Unified communications company Polycom and the research wing of Big Blue will leverage Polycom's RealPresence platform to create industry solutions that focus on video enabled mobile social collaboration, the statement said.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring Polycom's RealPresence video solution can withstand the most daunting of cloud environments and provide high levels of security and performance.

The collaboration creates new possibilities in a few industries, including insurance, surveillance and call centers, according to the announcement.

"At its heart, the collaboration with IBM is about laying the foundation for RealPresence innovation is the cloud," said Sudhakar Ramakrishna, President of products and services for Polycom

Both companies plan to further develop social video applications, to serve organizations requiring face-to-face video meetings.

"Our work with IBM is yet another step forward in achieving Polycom's goal of connecting anyone across any environment on any device," Ramakrishna added.

Co-developed solutions from the partnership will be revealed in future Polycom RealPresence video collaboration solutions
