Huawei proposes DC 3.0 architecture of future data centre

This new DC will meet the requirement of real-time data processing in today’s big data era.

Chinese telecommunications company, Huawei, has announced that its Data Centre 3.0 (DC 3.0) architecture - based on resource pooling, software-defined and all-optical interconnecting technologies - will be able to significantly improve the real-time data processing ability of data centres in the future.

By using flexible real-time software and hardware resource allocation, there is a significant improvement in the ability of data centres to process data. In addition, the DC 3.0 architecture has a flat configuration and the capability to expand flexibly, providing customers with a cost-effective data centre solution.

Over the next 10 years, Huawei expects that the average personal data consumption will reach PetaByte levels, which is a thousand times larger than Terabytes - the current data consumption level. This increase of data consumption will result in conventional data centres facing challenges such as real-time data processing, on demand resource allocation and massive systems energy efficiency.

According to Huawei, it has developed the DC 3.0 architecture in order to meet the needs of future data centres. The key innovations are pooling computing and storage resource via disaggregation.

In this data-centric architecture, the missions can be allocated to the processing units closing to data flexibly. Combining with the key technology innovations in software and hardware disaggregation, chip level silicon photonic interconnection, heterogeneous computing and parallel programming frame, DC 3.0 has a better resource utilisation, higher computing ability and lower energy consumption.
