Mahindra Satyam has become the first Indian IT services company in Singapore to achieve the (Singapore Standard) SS 507:2008 certification for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Services.
Mahindra Satyam's 3000 sq ft data centre in Singapore is one of the company's largest facilities outside India and is successfully managing over 10 global hosted customers.
The services offered by this facility conform to the ISO 24762:2008 Guidelines and according to the company, this certification milestone indicates that the company's rigorous implementation of structural and systematic procedures is in line with stringent international data management standards.
Prepared by the Technical Committee on Security and Privacy Standards, the SS 507 is a Singapore Standard under the purview of the Information Technology Standards Committee.
"This investment highlights our commitment to our customers across the region and will allow them to utilise the Mahindra Satyam Singapore data centre as their DR facility and service provider," said C.P.Gurnani, CEO, Mahindra Satyam. "This is a conscious investment in response to recent natural disasters and calamities and emphasises our commitment to help our customers with their disaster recovery operations needs. We are proud to be the first Indian company to achieve this coveted SS 507, Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Certification."
Mitigating outsourcing risks
The SS 507 standard helps end-user organisations in picking the best service providers, provides quality assurance and also establishes industry best practices to mitigate outsourcing risks.
The certification audit for Mahindra Satyam was conducted in three phases from May till July 2011, by M/s. TUV SUD PSB. The company was evaluated for both Disaster Recovery Facility and Disaster Recovery Services.
Mahindra Satyam made changes to its Quality Management System last year in order to address the requirements of the SS 507 standard and started the implementation in November 2010.
"TÜV SÜD PSB is pleased to present this certification to Mahindra Satyam - the first company from India to be awarded the Singapore Standard SS 507; qualifying them to become one of the country's top service providers of business continuity and disaster recovery services" said Wu Tek Ming, senior vice president, management services, TÜV SÜD PSB.
"By achieving this certification, Mahindra Satyam has proven that its capabilities and resources have met stringent SS 507 BC/DR requirements and in the event of activation, be able to provide quality assurance to their customers looking to them to continue and recover their business operations."
