KUALA LUMPUR, 30 SEPTEMBER 2009   A new campaign to acquire new customers will help double subscriber numbers, according to Malaysian WiMAX Telco firm Packet One Networks Malaysia (P1).

The company's subscriber acquisition strategy the Cut Now' campaign is the next phase of P1's objective to more than double its subscriber base, said P1 chief executive officer, Michael Lai.

The Cut Now' campaign kicks off with the first initiative called Promo M', which invites all non-P1 WiMAX broadband users to bring their current broadband bill and with it sign up for P1 WiMAX service, said Lai. These subscribers will enjoy the US$46.03 registration and activation fees waiver and complimentary first month of service, provided they meet the stipulated terms and conditions.

"We believe in continuously making things better and easier for Malaysians who are clamouring for better broadband at even better affordability, he said. The Cut Now' campaign packages will be not only budget-friendly but will also really cut down on the hassle of switching service providers.

More significantly, this marks the start of the next major phase in our drive to empower more Malaysians with the wonders of P1 WiMAX the largest and fastest growing wireless service in the country with new coverage areas introduced almost every day, said Lai.

P1 WiMAX (worldwide interoperability for microwave access) is available in nine states within Malaysia, namely Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang, Kedah, Perak, Pahang, Terengganu, totalling WiMAX coverage of more than 30 per cent in West Malaysia. The company aims to deliver 35 per cent population coverage by 2009, 45 per cent by 2010 and 65 per cent by 2012.

Powerful and essential platform

Lai said the campaign included a tie-up with Facebook to release an application called Potong-Lah.,' which would be a contest for users of the application.

The Internet is a powerful and essential platform that can change lives, shape nations and connect humanity, said Lai. At P1, we always strive to make your broadband journey a memorable one. This announcement will change the lives of many Malaysians, as we now have zero excuses not to cut the wires. We're not resting on the laurels of having won over 80,000 subscribers as of August this year and the Cut Now' campaign, with its subsequent initiatives, will make P1 WiMAX the choice of the next 100,000 at least.
