Securing unprotected hotspots

Nurdianah Md Nur | May 28, 2013
Ruckus Wireless’ Secure Hotspot automatically connects users to an encrypted public wi-fi network, protecting their confidential information from cyber criminals.

While a hotspot provides mobile Internet access, it may also allow criminals to access the users' unencrypted confidential information if it is unsecured.

To reduce the users' potential of being vulnerable to attacks and confidentiality breaches, Ruckus Wireless launched the Secure Hotspot. It is a Smart Wi-Fi technology that allows an operator or enterprise to offer its users with a secured encrypted access to open wi-fi network.

The Secure Hotspot automatically configures each device with the requisite wi-fi network information along with a unique pre-shared key by leveraging Ruckus-patented Dynamic Pre-Shared Key (Dynamic PSK) and Ruckus proprietary Zero IT Activation technologies. Users can thus use the encrypted wi-fi network without having to manually configure their connected devices.

Secure Hotspot is available free as part of the Ruckus ZoneFlex software suite that operates on Ruckus ZoneDirector WLAN controllers.
