Shenzhen, China, May 3, 2011- Media and IT executive Xiaowei Chen has been appointed as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Telstra.
Chen will be based in Beijing and will report to the group managing director of the Telstra International Group, Tarek Robbiati.
According to Telstra, Chen was born and educated in China and America. She is former president for The9 Limited and president of China.com. She has also been a consultant with McKinsey & Co, a global management consulting firm based in New York, and was anchor and executive producer for China Central Television.
"Xiaowei's in-depth knowledge of China's new media space and proven ability to adapt and deliver in the fast moving online sector provides the experience required for Telstra's continued growth in China" said Robbiati.
Chen boasts more than 15 years experience in the media and information technology industry. She most recently served as the CEO for Orange Sky Entertainment Group, an integrated entertainment company including production, artistic management, advertising and new media.
Drive continued growth
Telstra has offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The company provides enterprise customers with highly competitive managed network and international connectivity solutions.
Robbiati said that Chen was appointed following an extensive international search for an individual who could drive continued growth and shareholder value from Telstra's business interests in China.
