Up to 57 percent of employees expect a talent shortage in the next three years, according to Randstad Workmonitor Q3 report released on 10 September 2012.
Findings of the report indicate that about half of Singaporean employers are having trouble finding highly qualified talent showing shortage of the right type of employees in the country.
However, LinkedIn data about passive talent in Singapore reveals that six out of seven passive candidates in Singapore are approachable.
Passive talent includes those employees who are already employed and may not be actively seeking a new job; and according to LinkedIn data, 73 percent of Singaporean professionals characterise themselves as passive talent.
LinkedIn data suggests talent crunch can be effectively overcome if employers attempt to tap the passive talent in the country.
Passive talent is open to opportunities
Findings from LinkedIn data survey show that about 86 percent of Singaporean passive talent is open to opportunities in some way. A total of 10 countries were surveyed by LinkedIn and out of these, Singapore had the highest ratio of 'approachable' passive talent to 'super-passives' at 6:1.
Forty-nine percent of Singaporean respondents were willing to discuss a new opportunity with recruiters.
More than 1,000 Singaporean respondents answered questions in this survey and out of these 27 percent were 'Active', i.e. sent out resumes and actively looked for a new position.
Seventeen percent was thinking about changing jobs and reaching out to close associates; 45 percent was not looking for a job but willing to discuss a new opportunity with recruiters; and only 10 percent was happily employed and not interested in a new opportunity.
