Now, why where some female CIOs so shy about being interviewed?
While the subject interested them, they said they felt uncomfortable with my line of questioning. They claimed that some questions were too personal and they probably reckoned that answering them would lay bare some of their innermost thoughts. I respect their decision to do so, but what baffled me was this: how could some CIOs boldly answer the same questions while others chose to remain silent?
I guess the answer lies in their approachits about making independent choices. Those who were bold enough came out and answered all my questions without pulling their punches.
The other thing, that I didnt explore in my story, is the gender pay disparity in the IT industry. Time and space, as the editor would tell you, were the main constraints.
No matter what, it is a serious issue that corporations will have to face here sooner or later. A global study of 63 nations revealed that women, across all industries and age groups, are being paid on average 16 per cent less than men.
Do you think we can accept that while claiming to be fair and to be promoting gender equality?
