Hitachi Data Systems unveils cloud solutions

Nurdianah Md Nur | May 29, 2013
The new solutions allow businesses to adopt cloud computing in a secure and reliable way.

Hitachi Data Systems Corporation (HDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd, has launched solutions and services for businesses looking at adopting cloud computing. They include the Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) Anywhere, new HCP, and Hitachi Cloud Services Connection (HCSC).

These new cloud solutions enable businesses to adopt cloud computing and data mobility in a more secure and reliable way, as well as provide a better IT experience to their end-users, said Colin Tan, director, File & Content/Cloud Solutions (ASEAN) for HDS at a media briefing last week.

Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) Anywhere
To help businesses embrace a mobile workforce, the HCP Anywhere allows users to share and access data and collaborate regardless of the device used, location and time. It also provides businesses with data control by ensuring that file sharing solutions are deployed securely and with corporate oversight.

Once a file is saved to the HCP Anywhere folder, it will be automatically synced to all registered devices and available via the Web. Users can then safely share files with access-controlled, time-sensitive links, said Tan.

HCP Anywhere works with existing IT practices and processes, can be used even by non-technical users, and eliminates the need for backups. Users can access their files via Web browsers or an app for devices running on iOS.

Updated HCP
HCP is a cloud storage platform for data protection, enterprise mobility and content cloud.

To further to enable businesses manage the rapidly growing and increasingly diverse file data, Tan said the new version of HCP offers several enhancements including:

  • Cloud application support that enables customers to leverage cloud applications built for Amazon S3 while securely storing their data on their own premises;
  • Metadata intelligence which allows multiple users and applications to tag files with custom metadata to automate more intelligently, simplify management, aid searches and support analytics; and
  • The ability to tier to external storage, allowing businesses to take advantage of the intelligence of HCP even when other media types are used to store data.

Hitachi Cloud Services Connection (HCSC)
HCSC is a cloud services partner program. It allows partners to rebrand and resell the cloud services built on HDS cloud infrastructure and services and managed by HDS.

HCSC also offers businesses the experience, knowledge, solutions and enterprise features in one package, at a monthly fee, using an ITIL-certified, low latency and local data center architecture. This helps eliminate capex and reduce the need to invest in expertise.
