Microsoft to expand Business Productivity Online Suite to Singapore

Will update features quarterly, says Microsoft official

SINGAPORE, 4 NOVEMBER 2009 Microsoft's Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) will be available in Singapore from 9 November this year, according to the software company.

BPOS offers enterprise-class communications and collaboration software delivered as subscription services to businesses of all sizes. The services include Exchange Online with Exchange Hosted Filtering, SharePoint Online, Office Communications Online and Office Live Meeting, among others.

It will be available to businesses at US$10 per user per month, said a Microsoft representative. Customers can choose from a range of solutions with Microsoft Online Services, from the US$2 per user per month Deskless Worker option for occasional users, all the way up to the full-featured BPOS for knowledge workers.

According to Microsoft business division president Stephen Elop, hundreds of organisations including McDonald's have chosen BPOS in recent months.

Global organisations such as McDonalds, Starbucks and World Food Programme are choosing Microsoft communications and collaboration applications for the rich capabilities, flexibility and value they deliver, whether in the cloud, on-premises, or a combination of both, Elop said. And we're not slowing down. We'll continue to bring new innovations to our customers and offer businesses of all sizes the software and services options they need to succeed.

Later this week, Microsoft will expand the availability of BPOS, including commercial availability in Singapore and trials in Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Puerto Rico, Romania, and Taiwan. Commercial availability in India is also expected later this year.

Elop also announced Microsoft will update Microsoft Online Services every 90 days with new capabilities.


In addition, Elop announced that over the last four months, nearly 5,000 schools including more than 200 schools in Singapore have enrolled with Microsoft's Live@edu, a cloud-based e-mail and communications solution for students.

Live@edu has been available in Singapore since November 2008, and since then, more than 250,000 Live@edu accounts have been set up from local primary and secondary schools, junior colleges, integrated programme schools, international schools and institutes of higher learning.

Enterprises and small and medium businesses in Singapore will stand to benefit from Microsoft Online Services because it offers a familiar, consistent experience across the PC, phone and browser, while offering support, security and cost savings. We have close to 300 trial customers, who have given us good feedback and welcome enterprise-class capabilities on an Internet platform, said Haresh Khoobchandani, senior director, business and marketing organisation, Microsoft Singapore.
