Acision's fuseMe app to help operators compete with OTT players

Acision, a mobile engagement services provider, has rolled out its fuseMe app to help operators recoup revenue lost to over-the-top (OTT) players without major infrastructure investment.

fuseMe is a pre-made app interface with the extensive back-end and development infrastructure offered by Acision, said  Michael Fausing, the company's senior vice president and general manager for Asia Pacific. It combines OTT communication capabilities — including chat, file sharing, video, and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) — with web browsing functionality and the option to integrate WebRTC capabilities, he added.

As fuseMe is a white-label offering, the app can be customised such that it only features content and services that appeal to clients (ie. other enterprises such as retailers) and their target audience. Fausing explained that operators can choose to offer content channels or gaming catalogue in their customised fuseMe app as an add-on service. This allows operators to monetise services through targeted marketing, advertising, sponsorship and premium content.

As for the client, they are able to use the app to engage directly with their target audience, he added. For instance, a retailer can use the app to publish and/or push out promotional messages to customers who are following its feed or channel, or have indicated that they would like to receive updates from the brand.

A key differentiator between fuseMe and other OTT applications is the option to integrate WebRTC capabilities, asserted Fausing. With this capability, operators and its clients are able to enjoy low-cost and reliable one-click communication on a person-to-person or application-to-person basis.

Fausing also pointed out that fuseMe offers a split-screen function that allows users to engage in two separate conversations at once, or to view content while being in a one conversation. For the latter, users can drag and drop the content they are viewing — be it from the integrated browser or a subscriber channel service through RSS feeds — to the conversation area and the content will be instantly shared with the other party on the line.

Currently available on both iOS and Google Play app stores, the fuseMe app is adaptable across many markets and industries, claimed Fausing.
