Computer firm Dell has launched new storage solutions that offer greater flexibility and more secure storage, called Fluid Data, for a virtual era in Malaysia, said the company.
Speaking in Kuala Lumpur on 1 July 2011, Dell managing director, CSMB (consumer & small medium business), Malaysia & Singapore, Varinderjit Singh said the solutions are built on the company's Fluid Data Architecture, which offer scalability for a growing organisation. "We continue to transform our storage business through acquisitions and developing our own intellectual property. Our Fluid Data Architecture provides a strategy that helps customers lower the complexity and cost of managing their data."
"The solutions included Dell's first unified Dell EqualLogic platform, an updated Dell EqualLogic software capabilities, Dell Compellent 16Gbps [gigabit per second] fibre channel interoperability, and the introduction of fibre channel on its PowerVault product line," said Singh. "New Dell EqualLogic FS7500 brings the first scale-out NAS [network-attached storage] and unified storage capabilities for the Dell EqualLogic platform providing up to 10 times more file share scalability than legacy unified storage offerings."
"File storage systems historically have been difficult to expand because of file system size limitations and the complexity of managing multiple file servers," he said. "Unlike other unified storage solutions, with the FS7500, there are no eight, 16 or 50TB maximum limits on file system size. A single EqualLogic FS7500 file share can scale up to 510TB [terabyte] [raw capacity] - equivalent to the entire Library of Congress 51 times over."
"Dell is uniquely unencumbered by legacy storage technologies and rigid philosophies that do not support customer needs in the virtual era," he said. "Instead, Dell is focused on the development and acquisition of storage intellectual property that delivers productivity and efficiency gains for highly-virtualised data centres."
