KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian communications provider Telekom Malaysia (TM) signed an agreement on July 13 2011 with developer TTDI Land to provide high speed broadband (HSBB) services, called UniFi, to TTDI Alam Impian in Shah Alam, which will be the first UniFi township project in the central region.

The new township project is expected to be completed in 2016, said TM Selangor vice president Datuk Zaini Maatan. "This agreement between a dynamic property developer and Malaysia's national broadband champion will enable property owners and residents of the township to make full use of the connectivity in their broadband-ready TTDI Alam Impian premises."

"Both TM and  Naza TTDI are committed to leverage on our core competencies to transform the housing and business lots of TTDI Alam Impian with the provision of high speed broadband connectivity based on a unique eco-friendly and beautifully landscaped project development," said Zaini. "In fact, this is a historic moment as this agreement will give birth to the first UniFi Township in the central region."

He said the 208-acre TTDI Alam Impian Township, which is located in Section 35, consisted of 1,450 units of multi-type homes such as bungalows, semi-detached, super link houses, town houses, and apartments as well as commercial units. "TM's UniFi services comprise triple play services of high speed Internet, video (Internet Protocol television or 'IPTV') and voice, with speeds from 5Mbps up to 20Mbps via fibre-to-the-home or FTTH technology. The service will also bring greater value for unit owners and residents through an enriched digital lifestyle and an enhanced online experience."

With the collaboration, NAZA TTDI will offer all new buyers of 'TTDI Alam Impian' free VIP 5Mbps UniFi service for a maximum period of two years, said Zaini.

Collaboration with key industry associations

"This year, we will also continue to focus on collaborations with key industry associations as part of our outreach to SME [small and medium enterprise] communities, with property development firms as part of the community being singled out in this context," he added. "Such collaborations will help to expand high speed broadband usage to more Malaysians and with this 'broadband ready township'; we also hope to accelerate ICT adoption as aspired by the National Broadband Plan. TM will continue to support potential SMEs through mutual efforts that would enhance the competitiveness of products that they offer, especially since SMEs contribute 37 per cent of Malaysia's GDP [gross domestic product]. The statistics show that SMEs are a force to be reckoned with in Malaysia's economic development."
