Indonesia-based mobile telecommunications services operator XL Axiata, with more than 40 million subscribers, scooped last week’s prestigious Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific IT awards.

XL Axiata president director,  Hasnul Suhaimi, won the CEO of the Year: Service Provider, which was the most prestigious award of the night at the Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific IT awards, being the last presented at the Singapore awards banquet on Thursday, 9 June 2011 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.

The Indonesia-based mobile telecommunications services operator also won the Wireless Service Provider of the Year, Service Provider of the Year and the Telecom Group of the Year award.

XL Axiata, Cisco Systems, Huawei, and ZTE were recognised multiple times throughout the awards ceremony. Huawei and ZTE walked away with two awards each while Cisco Systems bagged three awards.

Other notable 2011 award recipients included Ericsson, Telecom Managed Services Provider of the Year; Nokia Siemens Networks, Wireless Infrastructure Vendor of the Year; and SingTel, Managed Service Provider of the Year.

Frost & Sullivan, which is celebrating 50 years of business, seeks to annually highlight best practice by identifying outstanding industry achievements in the past year by companies in the regional and global markets, through in-depth interviews, market analysis, performance measurements, and benchmarking of market participants.

Comprehensive evaluation

In its official awards announcement, the research firm said: "Award recipients were evaluated based on their revenue growth, market share gains, leadership in new product introduction and innovation, breadth of products and solutions, major customer acquisition, and business and market strategy."

The results are then presented to an independent panel of judges, comprising of influential personalities, decision-makers and thought leaders from the ICT sector across the Asia Pacific.

Frost & Sullivan's partner and senior vice president of ICT, Nitin Bhat, said 2010 was a year of muted recovery for the Asia Pacific ICT sector and in that environment, certain players clearly demonstrated an outstanding performance in the market.

"Relentless focus on issues impacting their customers, product and service innovation with unflinching execution has been the hallmarks of their performance," Bhat said. "These award recipients are shaping the Asia Pacific ICT landscape."

Partner sponsors for the Frost & Sullivan Awards night were Peoplexs and Robert Walters, while CIO Asia, MIS Asia and Computerworld Singapore, part of the Fairfax Business Media Asia group, are media partners.
