Malaysian 3G operator U Mobile has signed with non-traditional distributor Cosway Malaysia (M) to tap a wider consumer market in Malaysia.

The partnership allows U Mobile top-ups and prepaid starter packs to be made allowable through more than 22,000 Cosway outlets nationwide, U Mobile chief executive officer Dr Kaizad Heerjee said on 2 September 2011. "This partnership will bring us closer to new and existing customers, and will complement our other non-traditional distribution channels such as Singer, 7-Eleven and LH Sales & Marketing."

"As an additional bonus, more than 600,000 Cosway members who purchase U Mobile products at Cosway outlets will be entitled to Cosway's Redemption Coupons (RCs) programme at an exclusive rate," said Dr Kaizad. "For non U Mobile related purchases, Cosway members need to make purchases of up to RM30 [US$10.12] to obtain 1 RC. However, with U Mobile special deal, members only need to purchase the prepaid starter pack worth RM18 at Cosway to earn 1 RC."

He said RCs could be used to redeem any of the hundreds of items from the 'Great Redemption' range at any Cosway outlet.

"With more than 800 Cosway Sales Centres nationwide, Cosway and eCosway members can now conveniently register for U Mobile Prepaid Starter Pack and perform top-ups for themselves, friends and family members," said Cosway (M) director, Yeap Dein Wah. "They will be rewarded with Redemption Coupons (RCs) which can be used to redeem attractive items for free or at below-cost prices as well as to make free calls nationwide within the U Mobile network."

U Mobile, which was launched on 18 September 2007, is a 3G mobile service operator, providing voice and data services with more than 1,000 mobile base-stations installed covering Klang Valley, Seremban, Ipoh, Penang and Johor Bahru.
