Malaysian 3G telco U Mobile's new partnership with China-based telecoms provider ZTE Corporation for a disaster recovery (DR) system will result in a more resilient network, said the partners.

Under the agreement, which was signed in Kuala Lumpur in the presence of the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak and Xi Jinping, president of the People's Republic of China, ZTE will implement a DR system for U Mobile's core network within 2014.

"We are living in a connected society where almost everyone has access to mobile and Internet services wherever they go," said U Mobile acting chief executive officer and chief operating officer, Wong Heang Tuck. "Hence, network stability and coverage are keys to connectivity, and we at U Mobile are taking additional measures to safeguard and backup our network system, so that users can continue their seamless mobile experiences and stay connected with U Mobile."

Wong said: "U Mobile and ZTE have embarked on various major projects and strategic partnerships since early 2011, including the current DR system installation. We are proud to be partnering ZTE once again and we believe their expertise in telecommunications equipment and network solutions will add value to our company."

"ZTE is committed to help U Mobile deliver the best and most robust mobile services to subscribers," said ZTE Malaysia Corporation managing director, Fred Zhang. "We are pleased to strengthen our longstanding relationship with U Mobile through the latest partnership between our companies."
