Local telecom U Mobile has signed a deal with Telekom Malaysia (TM) that will provision backhaul fibre connectivity across four regions of Malaysia allowing the company to roll out stronger 4G LTE services.
This move will help U Mobile help strengthen the company's LTE [long term evolution] rollout and enhance customer user experience, said U Mobile's chief technology officer Too Tian Jen, who signed the partnership agreement with Telekom Malaysia.
TM's signatory, executive vice president, global & wholesale, Mohamad Rozaimy Abd Rahman said the agreement was sealed for a period of nine years and allowed for the provisioning of backhaul connectivity services through TM Next-Gen Backhaul (NGBH) services of up to 1Gbps per site that covered the Central, Southern, Eastern and Northern regions of the country.
Rozaimy said TM NGBH, a fiberized point-to-point backhaul connectivity network, has been optimised to support 4G LTE rollout in providing "high speed Internet experience, excellent voice and video quality through its high bandwidth capacity and reliable low latency."
Speaking of the some of the benefits from the collaboration, he said: "Such collaboration will help to avoid unnecessary duplication of network infrastructure and it is a strategic move by mobile operators to be more operationally efficient. We also see this partnership as a positive move towards delivering enhanced service experience to Malaysians nationwide when they access high-bandwidth digital content, high definition video streaming or run real-time applications via their mobile devices."
U Mobile's Too said, "As a data centric telco we have introduced many market defining products that are aligned with the mobile Internet trends to our consumers in the past few years."
"We will continue to invest in our network to ensure our customers enjoy the best user experience in the market. We are glad to partner with TM as their technologies are able to support our network capacity demand", he added.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Datuk Bazlan Osman, executive director and group chief financial officer, TM, and Wong Heang Tuck, chief executive office, U Mobile.
