Twitter's new music service: What we know so far

Ian Paul | April 15, 2013
A flurry of activity suggests that Twitter has a new music service in the works, and it may show up as early as this weekend.

A music service would be Twitter's second major foray outside of the social network's primary service of delivering short text updates of 140 characters or less. In January, Twitter introduced Vine , a standalone video sharing app that hooks into Twitter and Facebook. Vine is somewhat of a Twitter-style video, since the length of the video is limited to six seconds.

In addition to Vine, Twitter is working hard to promote its media "cards," which enable sites to embed photos, Web page previews, and videos inside of Twitter to deliver a richer media experience for users.

The Twitter Music Website going live was first reported by The Verge .
