IDA to investigate the SingTel fire incident

Nurdianah Md Nur | Oct. 11, 2013
Besides finding the cause of the fire, IDA will also take appropriate actions to prevent such disruptions from happening again.

Following the fire incident at SingTel's Bukit Panjang Internet exchange building on 9 October 2013, Singapore's Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore has launched a full investigation into the incident.

According to IDA, cable restoration works at the affected building were completed this morning. IDA now plans to find out the cause of the fire, and will also put in place appropriate measures to prevent a recurrence of it.

Under the Telecommunication Service Resiliency Code, operators are required to ensure that the design of their networks and services are resilient to service outages. When outages do occur, operators must ensure that they restore the services as soon as possible.

IDA has completed a review of the resiliency of the mobile networks of the three mobile operators in areas such as network design, technical processes, business continuity planning, and infrastructure. IDA will continue its review of Singapore's telecommunications infrastructure, looking closely at the systemic resilience in all critical parts of the republic's infocomm infrastructure. The findings will be captured in the new audit framework.

IDA will work with all operators to enhance resiliency of the infocomm infrastructure and minimise disruptions to consumers and businesses.
