Jurong Lake District of Singapore—Smarter City

The western area of the island-state comprising Jurong Gateway and Lakeside has been named one of the winners of the 2012 IBM Smarter Cities Challenge.

"These cities demonstrated a desire to set an example for other municipalities, an eagerness to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, and a strong commitment to consider implementing recommendations the city felt would be the most feasible and beneficial to their residents," he added.

Twenty-two cities were named winners in the 2011 edition of the IBM Smarter Cities challenge.

More details on the Jurong Lake District win will be released next week by the Singapore Urban Renewal Authority and Economic Development Board.
