SINGAPORE, 7 DECEMBER 2009 Singapore and the United Kingdom recently forged a partnership that will facilitate a new funding for media projects with multi-platform potential.
Called Multi-Platform Content Across Continents', the initiative is a result of the collaboration between Singapore's Media Development Authority (MDA) and UK's South West Screen, a development agency for the film, TV and digital media industries in the southwest of England.
Aside from strengthening the partnerships between Singapore and South West businesses in multi-platform content development, the project is also expected to generate new revenues across the European and Asian continents.
First in a series of planned projects between the two countries, the initiative invites Singapore and British production and digital media firms to participate in the digital twinning by co-developing concepts with multi-platform potential and cross-media elements.
Supported by the United Kingdom Trade and Investment, the initiative accepts proposals with specific interest in children's programming including animation, drama, documentary and factual entertainment.
Complimentary skill sets
Jointly, MDA and South West Screen will extend development funding of up to £50,000 (S$115,100; US$83,400) for up to two selected projects. The £25,000 (S$57,600; US$41,700) for each selected project will be shared equally between the Singaporean and British co-production partners.
Leveraging on complementary skill sets, we also look forward to some experimentation and innovative ideas that will come out of this initiative, said Christopher Chia, MDA chief executive officer.

After the exploratory trade mission by South West Screen to Singapore a year ago, MDA studied the prospects of linking digital media companies in the two countries.
