The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Ltd (Towngas) has adopted Citrix XenDesktop virtual desktop delivery platform and NetScaler, an application delivery controller, to help boost its productivity and customer service by enabling its staff to work more efficiently, anytime and anywhere.
According to Citrix, its XenDesktop solution enables Towngas' staff to access the company network, data and applications smoothly and securely. It added that the staff are also able to remotely access the network from Mainland China.
Prior to the deployment, Towngas staff actually had limited access to corporate IT via notebook computers connected across a VPN. Now, the employees can use virtually any device they choose. This development has freed them from having to carry cumbersome, power-hungry laptops when they are out of the office.
In addition, technology service and support is now much faster, allowing the IT staff to resolve issues promptly anywhere, compared to the need to travel back to the office to perform such tasks in the past.
Citrix XenDesktop delivers Windows apps and desktops as secure mobile services, enabling IT to mobilise the business while reducing costs by centralising security and control.
According to Citrix, the latest generation of the product simplifies virtual desktop delivery and Windows app delivery to an increasingly mobile workforce. As such, it is now easier than ever for companies to leverage the elasticity of hybrid clouds and the security of mobile device management - all within a single platform.
"Playing such a critical role in Hong Kong's daily life and future success, it is essential that Towngas staff have efficient and reliable access to the IT tools and data they need to make the best possible decisions and deliver superior customer service. With the deployment of Citrix XenDesktop and NetScaler, our staff can do precisely that," said Susanna Shen, Head of Corporate IT for Towngas.
