Lazada is equipping Southeast Asian retailers with e-commerce knowledge in various ways to enable them to reach out to as many as 560 million consumers during its upcoming Online Revolution 2017 shopping event.

The online marketplace is offering a suite of online tutorials, webinars and workshops to teach merchants how to best sell their products on its platform and how to leverage analytics to attract more visitors.

It has also developed a network of service providers to support merchants on their e-commerce operations so that sellers can simply focus on providing the best customer experience to customers.

In addition, Lazada has conducted a series of conferences and events to help sellers best grow their business and know what to expect during the Online Revolution.  So far, more than 5,500 merchants have participated in these events, and close to 1,000 more are expected to attend similar upcoming events in Vietnam, the Philippines and Shenzhen.

"Not everyone is an expert in selling online and we at Lazada are committed to eliminating as many hurdles for aspiring entrepreneurs so that they can grow with us and serve the millions of customers," said Lazada's group chief marketplace officer Aimone Ripa di Meana. "People see us as an e-commerce app but we are far more than that. We are a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to grow their business."

According to Lazada, shoppers ordered 2 million items on just the first day of last year's Online Revolution. Among the business owners who are hoping to tap on the shopping spree again is Wilson Siew, who signed up with Lazada just days before last year's Online Revolution. According to him, he received 3,000 orders of Xiaomi handsets and gadgets even before the sale kicked off. He expects to double or even triple his sales this year.

"Going online is important for us to reach out to more consumers throughout the country and partnering Lazada has given us a lot more exposure. It is very easy to navigate through the website, allowing us to carry out our transactions very quickly," he said.

With the theme "Shop the Universe", the Online Revolution 2017 will stretch from 11 November to 12 December. Shoppers can look forward to a wide range of products - from branded cosmetics, apparel and fashion accessories, to TVs and other nifty electronics, household essentials and even pet food - on sale during that period on Lazada.
